Well since my life consists of: Going to work, walking the dog, making\eating dinner, watching television, going to bed, and back again. I really don't have much to write here except maybe "Today I broke my tooth..." or "Yesterday, I gave the dog a bath". Blogging has shown me that my life may be a bit boring and there's no brilliant way of making it sound exciting. So perhaps today would just be a good day to write about (and criticize) recent movies that I've seen.
Little Miss Sunshine
I love Steve Carrell in The Office, so I decided to rent the movie, Little Miss Sunshine. It had been doing well at various award shows and couldn't be a bad movie, could it? It turned out to be a strange movie that tries to be funny but ends up depressing most of the time. You simply take a screwed up family, stick them in a National Lampoons Vacation scenario and throw in a cute little girl and you have Little Miss Sunshine. I know that's the point of the movie, that she's the only bright spot of the family, but there just isn't much here to entertain or evoke any emotion\thought.
Rocky Balboa
Okay, if you're not a Rocky fan, then you'll not enjoy this movie. But for us Rocky fans, you'll be pleasantly surprised. This movie is a throw back to the first movie. The focus is not on the fight, it's about Rocky and him dealing with getting older. There's a lot of good stuff in the movie and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Let's forget Rocky 5 ever happened.
Eragon
What do you get when you mix Lord of the Rings with Star Wars and some dragons? Eragon. I can't say that the movie wasn't entertaining, but I just kept having the feeling that I've seen it before. For example, Eragon rushes home to discover his Uncle had been killed because the bad guys (look like orcs) killed him looking for Eragon. Sound familiar? The special effects were really good and I did get caught up in the story. The downside was when the movie abruptly ends with a "To be continued" like scene after only an hour and a half. I was not a happy camper! Epic movies should be 2 hours at a minimum. I just hope the movie did well enough to warrant a sequel so I know what happens.
Blood Diamond
At first I didn't know if I was going to handle Leonardo with a fake African accent. But I was surprised by this movie. It's intelligent, action packed, and moving. Plus it has Jennifer Connelly in it.
A must see.
Man of the Year
I was expecting a nice enduring movie with lots of laughs from Robin Williams. This movie really missed the mark. It couldn't decide whether to be a comedy or a serious suspense movie. I couldn't help but compare it to the movie "Dave" and it fell really short. I'd rather watch "Dave" any day.
Casino Royale
Bond is back and he's better than he has been in decades. Daniel Craig is an awesome James Bond! I wouldn't have picked him to play Bond in a million years, but he actually pulls off a near Sean Connery performance. I like that they've de-cheesed Bond a bit as well. It's now more believable and can compete with the Bourne and Mission: Impossible movies. Guarantee: All guys will cross their legs during the torture scene.
